Mambelli Drives in Three; Scapin Picks Up Save to Close Out Bulldog Classic

ATHENS, Ga. | Virginia Mambelli drove in a career-high three runs and Sydney Scapin was able to halt a rally attempt by UNC Wilmington in the seventh for her first career save as the South Alabama softball held on for a 6-4 win Sunday on day three of the 17th Annual Bulldog Classic at Turner Softball Complex.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the win: "Today was a good team win. I thought Tori (Miller) threw a great game and Scape (Sydney Scapin) came in behind her and finished it off. We had some great defensive plays in there as well, as (Olivia) Branstetter made some great grabs at third and (Brooklynn) Bockhaus made two plays in left that were game savers. (Sydney) Stewart came in off the bench and helped us get the big inning going. I thought there was a log of good stuff all the way around. We needed to bounce back and finish the weekend off the right way."

Key Moments
•    South Alabama (13-7) broke a scoreless tie with a manufactured run in the top of the fourth. •    UNC Wilmington (8-8) broke through with a run in the bottom of the sixth as with two on, Averie Daughtry lined a two-out, single to right center to score Ava Brookshire (USA, 5-1) from second, who had drawn a leadoff walk to start the inning
•    South Alabama got the run right back though as Mambelli plated her third run of the game, scoring Dees (walk) from third with her second sacrifice fly of the contest (USA, 6-1)
•    The Seahawks tried to rally back in the final frame, scoring three runs on RBI singles by Cassidy Relay and Emily Whitwell, and a sac fly to center by Allison Corbin (USA, 6-4)
