Series Preview: Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. - South Alabama will face the Mountaineers in a crucial conference series this weekend with only nine more conference games left for the Jaguars.

Appalachian State enters the series with a 26-15-1 record and 11-9-1 conference slate. App State swept Georgia State in Atlanta the previous weekend, and is returning from a midweek challenge at No. 14 Wake Forest, who dealt the Mountaineers a 10-9 loss. App State holds a 7-7-1 record with opponents in common with South (3-0 Ga. State, 0-3 JMU, 2-0-1, Ark. State, 1-2 Texas State, 1-2 Troy).

South Alabama holds a 16-6 record all-time against the Mountaineers. 1973 was the first meeting between the Jags and App State, with the Mountaineers eliminating the Jags from the District 3 Regional, 2-1. The other 21 matchups have occurred since 2015. The last meeting took place in Mobile in 2022, with a sweep for the host Jaguars. 2021 was the latest visit to Boone, where the Mountaineers took the series in the first two games before South took game three as consolation.
