Series Preview: UNC-Wilminigton

MOBILE, Ala. - South takes on the 2023 CAA Champion at home this weekend for a three game series.

UNC-Wilmington currently sits with a 5-4 record on the season with series wins over Kent State and Princeton. The Seahawks have already faced a Sun Belt school in Coastal Carolina, losing 2-7 in a midweek contest in Conway, S.C.

Historically, South Alabama has never faced UNC-Wilmington. In 2023 the Seahawks finished 34-23 with a 20-8 record in conference play. Wilmington won six games against ranked teams, including a two game sweep of top-15 ranked East Carolina, a series win over #25 Northeastern, and a series win over #23 TCU. Wilmington Won the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and made an NCAA Regional appearance in the Conway Regional.

KING OF THE HILL
Senior LHP Cam Hill was recognized as the Sun Belt's Week 2 Pitcher of the Week with his Sunday showing against Jacksonville State. Hill was on the bump for 7.0 innings and faced 27 batters, allowing only five hits and one hit batter. He retired five by strikeout and went three up, three down in the second, fifth, and sixth innings, staying consistent throughout the game.

HITTING/ON BASE STREAKS
The longest hitting streak of the season currently is held by Lucas Ismaili, who has a current five game hitting streak. Ismaili, Joseph Sullivan, Brennan Holt, and JG Bell have safely reched base in all nine games of the season so far.

GRAND THEFT BASES
Through five games the Jaguars have stolen 21 bases placing them in the top 15 in the country in that category. At 2.33 steals per game, USA is among the most productive in all of Division I. Will Turner, Brennan Holt, and Joseph Sullivan all rank in the top-100 in stolen bases in the nation.

WALK THE LINE
The Jags currently land 11th in Division 1 in base on balls with 64, averaging 8.0 per game. Will Turner currently sits 6th nationally with 13 walks, and Joseph Sullivan sits 14th with 11.
