NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama men's basketball's graduate guard Samuel Tabe was named Sun Belt Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Tabe averaged 28 points, six rebounds, and a 62.5 percent field goal percentage in two road contests last week. Tabe poured in 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field with five rebounds in the Jags' 83-64 win over Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. He would follow up that performance with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor with seven rebounds at Arkansas State.
A graduate transfer from Division ll Seton Hill, Tabe surpassed the 1,000 career points mark earlier this season against Marshall and posted the most points in a single game in the Richie Riley era and the Sun Belt Conference this season with 35 at home against Arkansas State on Feb.17. The Beltsville, Maryland native has recorded three 20-point games and ten or more points in 15 games this season.
Tabe is the first South Alabama player to earn the Sun Belt's top weekly honor since Isaiah Moore on November 29, 2022.
