Perrier Claims Individual Title, Men's Team Leads After Day One of Sun Belt Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The South Alabama Track and Field program wrapped up a stellar outing on day one of the Sun Belt Indoor Championships Monday evening, and the Jaguar men's team sits in first place with 47 points, while the women currently rank 10th. Senior Sacha Perrier walked away with the lone Individual Sun Belt title for the Jags on Day One. 

Sebastian Reyneke set the tone for the Jaguars in the men's heptathlon totaling 3,274 points to hold second place at the end of Day one.  Reyneke claimed two first-place finishes and three personal records in the first four events of the heptathlon. He opened the competition with a blazing personal best time of 7.23 in the 60 meters. Reyneke would then take the top spot in the shot put with a toss of 14.24 meters (46'8 ½") before clinching first place in the high jump with a personal best leap of 2.09 meters (6' 10 ¼"). 

In his first collegiate championships, Perrier ran a dominant race in the men's 5000 meters, separating from the pack in the final lap and logging a time of 14:30.39 to win the event and claim the individual title. The Jags packed the podium in this race as Xaiver Johnson posted a personal best time of 14:32.41 to take third place, and Teagan Flanagan just missed out on the top three, placing fourth with a 14:35.90. 

Bodine Degli Umberti continued her superior ways in the women's weight throw, breaking her own school record for the second time this season with a toss of 20.37 m (66'10") to earn third place. 

Kyle Rademeyer took home silver in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.42 meters (17' 9 ¼"). This secured Rademeyer's third time on the podium in the Indoor Championships in his career. 

Caleb Mabins clawed his way into the top five in the Long Jump. Mabins recorded a mammoth leap of 7.20 meters (23' 7 ½") to earn a new personal record and snag fifth place in the competition. 

The Jaguars had an impressive outing in the men's weight throw. Francois Prinsloo led the way, posting an outstanding throw of 18.78 meters (61' 7 ½") to secure second place in the competition. Samuel Mika and Sebastian Loschner also cracked the top-10 in the weight throw. Mika logged a throw of 17.26 meters (56' 7 ½") to earn seventh, and Loscher hurled a throw of 17.07 meters (56' 0") to finish close behind in eighth. 

Prelims 

Kendal White and Bo Webb both punched their ticket in tomorrow's men's 60-meter hurdles final. White ran to a time of 8.06 to place fifth and Webb finished close behind in eighth place, posting a time of 8.24. 

Tia Acker blazed to a time of 24.24 in the women's 200 meters to secure seventh place overall and qualify for tomorrow's finals. 

In the men's 400 meters, Javon Glenn took second in his heat and third overall with a time of 48.53 to clinch a spot in the finals. 

Joshua Norris and Jordan Morrison both rounded out the Jags sprinters in tomorrow's finals. Norris clocked a time of 22.01 in the 800 meters to take eighth place, while Morrison posted a time of 1:55.29 to secure sixth place. 

Day Two Schedule

Day two the heptathlon events will start off conclude, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The awards presentations are scheduled to take place at 5:00 p.m.
