NASHVILLE, Tenn. / BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two school records fell and several athletes moved up the all-time program record rankings in a dominant weekend for the South Alabama Track and Field program at the Music City Challenge and Samford Invitational.
Vanderbilt Music City Challenge
Kendal White continues to etch his name further into the Jaguar record books. For the second time this year, White set a new program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 7.84 in the prelims. He would then go on to best his previous school record heading into the day in the finals by clocking a time of 7.93 while freshman Jadon Thomason posted a 7.89 to take third place and earn a new personal best.
On the women's side, true freshman Presleigh Montalvo shattered the program record in the women's 60 meters by blistering to a time of 7.51 seconds in the prelims and followed up with a 10th-place finish in the finals.
Jordan Morrison moved his name further up the record books, turning in a time of 1:52.11 in the 800 meters to PR and improving to third all-time in the event for South Alabama.
Charleen Elizondo cracked inside the Top 10 in the record books in women's 3000 meters. Elizondo placed seventh overall in the competition and clinched the 10th-fastest time in the event for the Jags.
In the 800 meters, Javon Glenn snagged the second time in school history after posting a time of 47.71 (converted due to oversized track).
Samford Invitational
Iyana Johnson set the tone for the Jaguars in Birmingham. Johnson launched to first place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.14 meters (39 '10"). She also placed third in the weight throw with a 17.82 meter (58'5.75") toss.
Freshman Brody Hamilton blazed to No.6 all-time in Jaguar record books in the 60 meters by clocking a time of 6.88.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Hamilton, Alex Johnson, Marlon Miller, and Colin Roberts had an outstanding showing, posting a time of 3:20.25 to win the event.
Joshua Acker secured third place overall and posted a 16.12 meter (52 '10.75") throw in the shot put to earn the 10th furthest toss in school history.
Sophomore Samuel Mika earned his second throw over 18 meters this season in the weight throw. Mika placed third, logging a distance of 18.04 meters (59'2.25").

South Alabama will now prepare for the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Monday, Feb.24, and Tuesday, Feb.25 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
