MOBILE, Ala. - The Jaguars begin the season at home with a four game opening weekend for the South Alabama Invitational Presented by Hampton by Hilton, Providence Park.
South begins play against North Alabama Friday night at 6:30 p.m. where the Jaguars will debut their new jerseys. Saturday the Jags face Lamar at 6:30 p.m. before playing a two game series against Southern Indiana, Sunday at 3:00 p.m.and Monday at 12 p.m.
South returns four position starters in Will Turner, Joseph Sullivan, JG Bell, and Robbie Petracci. Notable returners on the mound include Leif Moore, Zach Willingham, and Mitchell Heer.
Transfers to look out for are Redshirt Sophomore Brennan Holt, who makes his way to the 251 after stops at LSU and Oklahoma State. Head Coach Mark Calvi also landed two experienced arms out of the portal from Auburn. Carson Swilling, the righty, made21 appearances for the Tigers in 2022, while Cam Hill, the lefty, started five games of his 10 showings in 2023.
The talent-rich freshman class also looks to make an immediate impact on the squad. Duncan Mathews is expected to start at catcher, and Jaxon Milam has shown off his abilities in spring practice as a power hitter. Jacob Haley has the talent to shine either in the infield or on the mound. All three were acknowledged by D1 Baseball as Impact Freshmen in the Sun Belt.
The only program South Alabama has faced before is Lamar, in which the Jags lead the all time series, 14-6.
