LAFAYETTE, La. – Harold van Raemdonck produced strong play in both singles and doubles to lead the South Alabama Men's Tennis effort at the 2024 Cajuns Classic.
van Raemdonck won his first doubles match with
Javier Montoya, as well as his first-two singles matches to advance to the semifinals in both events. In the main draw of the singles competition, van Raemdonck knocked off his Southern Miss opponent 6-3, 6-4 before moving on to the quarterfinal to knock off a foe from Louisiana, 6-4, 6-4. After narrowly falling in the semifinals, he then moved to the consolation bracket and defeated an opponent from Xavier 6-2, 6-1.
In singles play, Montoya and van Raemdonck won their opening match over a combination of Louisiana and Xavier players, 6-2. Then, after dropping their match in round two, they bounced back to defeat Southern Miss in the consolation bracket, 7-6 (8).
Montoya also competed in singles for the Jags, and won his opening match against Xavier 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. He would later compete in the consolation bracket as well, and pick up a win over Louisiana 3-6, 7-6 (2), 10-8.
South Alabama's next fall outing will take place in Tallahassee, Fla. when Montoya travels to compete in the ITA Sectionals on Nov. 7. The Jags will also travel to Miramar Beach, Fla. that same weekend for the Battle at the Beach. That will mark the final weekend of the fall season for USA, then the Jaguars will open their spring slate against Southern on Sunday, Jan, 19.
