MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – The South Alabama Men's Tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule over the weekend at the Battle at TOPS'L Battle at the Beach.
"We played some big tennis," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "Sometimes toward the end of the fall season you're a little tired, but the guys really came through one more time. What I really liked is how they finished strong on the last day. They won every match on Sunday. That put a big smile on our face to go undefeated on the last day of the last fall tournament. That's the way we want to finish the season."
Juan Accossatto and
Harold van Raemdonck started the tournament off strong with singles wins on the opening day. Accossatto knocked off Rohan Sachdev from Georgia Tech 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (3) while van Raemdonck took down Owen DeMuth 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-0.
Saturday saw
Braden Hannig and Victor Frumholz get in the win column as the duo took down a doubles team from Tulane, 8-5. Accossatto and van Raemdonck also teamed up for a doubles victory over Tulane in 8-7 (3) fashion.
Sunday was South's biggest day of the tournament as the Jags went undefeated on the day. Hannig and Accossatto started the morning with an 8-4 doubles win over Georgia Tech before the team moved onto singles play. In singles play, the Jags performed a clean sweep against their opponents from Tulane. Accossatto won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 while Hannig earned a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory. Frumholz then capped off the day by winning 6-7 (7), 7-5, 10-7.
South Alabama will open is spring schedule on Sunday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Southern. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT a Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
