Jags host Georgia State in key Sun Belt Conference series this weekend

Two teams are currently tied in standings just four games out of first

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama and Georgia State meet in a key Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Eddie Stanky Field as the second half of the conference season gets underway.

The two teams find themselves tied for ninth place in the conference with identical 7-8 records in Sun Belt play, however, they are just four games out of first place through the first five series. South Alabama (19-18, 7-8 SBC) enters the weekend having won its last three conference series including last weekend on the road at ULM, and two weeks ago against Texas State at home.

The Jags have won their last four games (including the resumption game from April 11 against Alabama State) and 10 of their last 13 games.

Will Turner leads South Alabama at the plate, hitting .370 on the season with an OPS of 1.156. He has collected 54 hits with 24 of those being for extra-bases including nine home runs, while also scoring 39 runs and driving in another 44. Meanwhile, Joseph Sullivan is hitting .330 with nine home runs and 34 RBI (13 stolen bases), and Erick Orbeta is hitting .327 on the season with 12 doubles from the leadoff spot.

Colson Lawrence leads the Jags with 10 home runs.

On the mound, a pair of relievers lead the way for South Alabama led by Matthew DeLano (2-0, 3.90 ERA) with 12 appearances and Grant Wood (4-2, 5.61 ERA) with five saves and 16 appearances.
