Yego named Sun Belt Indoor Track Performer of the Year, others receive all-conference awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. – South Alabama distance runner Kirami Yego has been named the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Men's Track Performer of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday morning.

Yego won three gold medals at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships held in Birmingham, Ala., including two meet records in the 5,000 meters (13:51.03) and the 3,000 meters (8:09.39). He was also part of the first-place distance medley relay that crossed the line in 10:06.02.

In addition to the award, Yego was also recognized as the High-Point Scorer in Sun Belt men's track this season. He set a new conference record in the 5,000 meters (13:38.45) at the Sharon Colyear Invitational in his first race of the season. He followed that up with eight top-two finishes in the season, every race in which he competed.

Kiara Risher, Colette Uys, and Bodine Degli-Umberti were honored as first-team all-conference members for their performances at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships. Adele Magaud was named a member of the third-team.

Yego, along with teammates Giacomo DeLuca, Jalen Boyd, Lance Cunigan and Sebastian Reyneke were placed on the men's all-conference first-team.
