MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama looks to build off a 2-0 weekend, traveling to the Sunshine State for a match against the No. 15 ranked Florida State Seminoles Friday at 4 p.m.
South secured the weekend sweep in Birmingham last weekend, beating Samford 5-2 and UAB 4-3.
Martin Bugaj clinched both matches over the weekend, with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Santiago Arredondo of Samford and a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Carlos Gimenez-Perez of UAB.
Bugaj,
Sébastien Collard,
Maxime St-Hilaire and
Javier Montoya all posted a 2-0 singles record over the weekend, along with the doubles duo of Collard and
Steyn Dippenaar. Collard and Dippenaar are 3-1 on the season, with all their wins at number two.
Bugaj is perfect in singles this season, posting a 7-0 record so far, with his wins coming from number four. St-Hilaire is 7-1 on the season, with three wins at number two and four at number three.
The doubles duo of
Jack Clements and
Louis Delcour are ranked No. 27 by ITA, the highest ranked Sun Belt Conference duo.
The Seminoles are host to the No. 3, No. 38 and No. 71 singles players, in Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, Youcef Rihane and Jamie Connel, respectively.
Florida State is 5-2 on the season, dropping matches against No. 12 Baylor and No. 16 Florida.
South is 6-21 all-time against the Seminoles, and have not won since 2000.
