The Jaguars are coming off a dominant 70-56 road first victory over Buffalo in the MAC-SBC Challenge, while Alabama remained unbeaten with a 101-80 win over Indiana State on Friday.
Series History
This is the sixth meeting between the two schools. Alabama leads the series 4-1 all-time. The Jags hosted the Tide in Mobile for the first time last fall and stayed close, but fell short in the second half losing 65-55.
The Jaguars lone victory came in the 1989 NCAA Tournament, when all-time South great Jeff Hodge hit a three-point buzzer beater to move South Alabama to the second round of the tournament for the first time in program history.

South Alabama rode a 26-7 second half run and 44 total points in the paint to help seal the victory over Buffalo.

The Jags had three players finish with double-digits in scoring. In his second game as a Jag, Marcus Millender scored 15 points off the bench, totaled four assists, and three steals. Isiah Gaiter added 13 points and four rebounds, while Maxwell Land recorded 12 points, shooting 2-6 from behind the arc.

The Jaguars shot 75 percent from the field in the second half and held Buffalo to a 36.1 percent field goal percentage on the night.

Gaiter has recorded double figures in scoring in his first two games as a Jaguar.

The Jags season opening loss snapped a streak of 31 straight home opener victories and a nine game win streak over Mobile.

Judah Brown set a new career-high against Mobile, scoring 21 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc.

Thomas Howell has commanded the boards for the Jaguars in the first two games of the season. Howell pulled down 10 rebounds against Buffalo.

The Jaguars have a 6-43 overall record against ranked opponents. Their most recent victory came in a 76-71 battle against No. 24 ranked Florida State on Nov. 9 2009.

Dating back to 2000, South Alabama is 5-31 vs. SEC opponents. South's last victory against an SEC opponent was a 79-75 win in overtime vs. LSU on Nov. 23, 2011.

The Jaguars return three players with playing experience in 2023, including Judah Brown, Tyrell Jones, Marshall Kearing, and Elijah Ormiston. These four combine for 17.75 minutes returning for the entire Jaguars this season.

South Alabama welcomes seven newcomers to the program for the 2023-24 season. Four are transfers, including two from the Division I level, two from the Division ll level, and three freshmen. Nine states are represented on the roster, including one international country(Australia). Illinois is the only state with multiple players (2). The roster consists of three freshmen, one sophomore, three juniors, four seniors, and one graduate senior.

SEC Familiarity: Tyrell Jones transferred to South Alabama in 2020 after two seasons with Auburn. Jones was named to the All-Sun Belt preseason second team.
