MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama track & field travels to Birmingham for its first indoor meet of the season, as the men's and women's indoor teams participate in the UAB Invitational held at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday.
 
The meet features teams from Alabama A&M, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Jackson State, Meridian Community College, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss and UAB.
 
South Alabama returns seven individuals who earned indoor track and field All-Sun Belt honors last year, including first-team honorees Kyle Rademeyer, Francois Prinsloo and Kirami Yego. Yego was named the Sun Belt Men's Track Performer of the Year after he broke the conference meet record in the 5,000m (14:05.26) at the championship meet.
 
The Jaguars are coming off an indoor season that saw the men's team finish fourth in the conference, while the women's team finished eighth.
 
The meet will operate on a rolling schedule throughout the day. The throwing and field events will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the shot put and men's high jump, and the running events will start at 12:00 p.m. with the 60-meter dash.

NOTES

• The Jaguars return seven athletes who received All-Sun Belt honors last season.
• Eight current athletes hold the school record for their event – Yego (5,000m), Dorian Curry (high jump), Rademeyer (pole vault), Prinsloo (weight throw), Graham Collins (heptathlon), Rachel Hunter/Shay Lee/Abbey Weitenbeck (distance medley).
• This is the second event of the indoor season for Yego, as he participated in the Sharon Colyear Invitational in December.
• The Jags will participate in four total meets this season at the Birmingham CrossPlex, including the Sun Belt Championship on Feb. 20-21.
