MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama opens the 2023 season at home on Friday morning, the first of four matches in four days including a pair of road contests in Mississippi over the weekend.
South Alabama (17-7 a season ago) plays host to West Alabama with a pair of matches on Friday beginning at 10 am before facing each other for the final time at 2:30 pm at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. They hit the road on Sunday to face East Tennessee State in a neutral site match in Starkville (Miss.) before closing out the stretch against Mississippi State on Monday.
The Jags return seven from last year's roster including the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year
Sébastien Collard and Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year
Jack Clements. Collard finished the year 25-8 last season including going 12-6 at number one singles, while Clements finished 17-8 with the bulk of his matches coming at number two singles. They also return first-team All-Sun Belt performer

South Alabama and West Alabama (10-10 in 2022) have met three times previous to Friday's season-opener with the Jags winning each match, including sweeping the doubleheader last season. Meanwhile, the Jags and East Tennessee State (20-7 last season) have not met in dual match play although they met last fall in the CCB Invite, while Mississippi State (14-13 last season) and South Alabama have met 16 times in school history with the Bulldogs holding a 12-4 advantage.
