MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama football heads north for its first road game of the season, facing Central Michigan at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the first meeting between the two schools.

Kick is scheduled for 1 pm (ET)/12 pm (CT) on ESPN+.

South Alabama (1-0) enters the weekend after a 48-7 win over Nicholls in the season opener on Labor Day weekend, using 500-plus yards of total offense, including 332 through the air between a pair of quarterbacks in Carter Bradley and Desmond Trotter. Bradley finished 17-for-25 with three touchdowns and 260 yards, while Trotter finished 9-for-10 for 72 yards. The duo targeted 12 different receivers and were led by Caullin Lacy with six receptions for 72 yards, and Jalen Wayne with three for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Defensively, the Jags allowed just 165 yards of total offense, including 59 yards rushing. They also forced a pair of turnovers and were led by Quentin Wilfawn with nine tackles, including a tackle for loss.

They will face a Central Michigan (0-1) team who fell at 12th-ranked Oklahoma State 58-44 during the opening week. The Chippewas threw for 424 yards – the sixth-highest total on opening week and are currently 22nd in total offense. They return Lew Nichols III, who finished last season as the nation's top rusher with 1,848 yards and 16 touchdowns.

GAME NOTES
  • South Alabama and Central Michigan will meet for the first time in school history; however, it will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Jags and a member of the MAC. The Jags have played Bowling Green (1-1) twice and Kent State (2-1) three times.
  • The Jags have split 12 road openers since 2010, winning their last two including at Bowling Green in 2021 (22-19).
  • Bradley is no stranger to the MAC and to Central Michigan having played at Toledo, which included a 24-23 victory in 2020 when he led his team on a last-minute touchdown drive with 1:33 remaining in the game. He finished that game 18-for-33 with three touchdowns and 265 yards through the air.
  • There are several ties between the two teams, including South Alabama assistant Rob Ezell who spent time on staff with current Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain at Colorado State as a graduate assistant. The Chippewas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino briefly spent time at South Alabama as an analyst before being hired on McElwain's staff.
  • Senior receiver Wayne is just three catches short of 100 for his career entering the weekend after his three-reception day in the opener. He currently sits seventh all-time in receptions with 97.
  • South Alabama recorded 217 yards after catch in the win over Nicholls on Saturday and also amassed 508 yards of total offense – the 29th-best total through the first two weekends of football.
