NEW ORLEANS, La. – Sophomore forward
Monique Gray was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Gray scored a hat trick in South Alabama's 7-0 win over McNeese State Sunday afternoon.
It was the 20
th hat trick in program history and the third under head coach
Richard Moodie. The Jags had two last season.
Gray scored in the 44th minute off an assist from defender
Gabrielle Gayle to give South a 2-0 lead over McNeese State. Gray found the back of the net for the second time of the day in the 60th minute off an assist from
Nour Imane Addi to take a 4-0 lead. Gray scored her third and final goal of the day in the 62nd minute off another assist by Addi to take a 5-0 lead over the Cowgirls.
Gray was involved in four goals on Sunday, scoring three and assisting another. Gray also tripled her goal total from 2021 in one day - one goal in 2021, three on Sunday afternoon.
The Jags hit the road this week with a matchup at Mississippi State Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6:30, and then will return home Sunday for a match against Southeastern Louisiana.
