Jaguar Football Opponent Preview - Louisiana Tech

After a pair of road games in non-conference action, South Alabama returns home in week four to face Louisiana Tech on September 24. Here is an in-depth preview of the Bulldogs prior to camp opening in early August.

Louisiana Tech will be under first-year head coach Sonny Cumbie after the team finished 3-9 a season ago, taking over after leading Texas Tech to bowl eligibility as the interim head coach down the stretch in 2021. He will look to lead the Bulldogs to their first conference championship since 2011, and just their third in school history.

The Bulldogs are looking for their next quarterback and have a couple of different options including Parker McNeil who has stops at Troy and Texas Tech – under Cumbie. They also have former Georgia and TCU quarterback Matthew Downing and Andrew Brister on the depth chart. They will have several options to throw the football to including Smoke Harris (71 rec/6 tds) and Tre Harris (41 rec), while also having veteran Griffin Herbert at the position.

They will be able to buy some time to pass the football with Joshua Mote (guard) and Abraham Delfin (center) returning up front on the interior, and Dakota White at tackle. The trio will clear some room for Greg Garner and Vanderbilt transfer Keyon Henry-Brooks to run the football.

Defensively, the Bulldogs will turn to new coordinator Scott Power from Stephen F. Austin to shake things up from the 2021 season where they finished 106th in total defense and 114th in scoring defense.  Kevin Rose and Mykol Clark will get things started up front for Louisiana Tech to free up some time for Tyler Grubbs at linebacker. They also return a pair of starters in the defensive backfield with BeeJay Williamson and Cedric Woods.

The two will meet at Hancock Whitney Stadium on September 24 with a kick time yet to be determined. Tickets are still available by visiting USAJaguars.com or by calling the South Alabama ticket office at (251) 461-1USA (1872).
