NEW ORLEANS – Three University of South Alabama baseball student-athletes earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors, as announced by the league office Monday.

Outfielder Miles Simington was named first-team all-SBC, and right-handed pitcher Matt Boswell and second baseman Erick Orbeta were selected as second-team all-Sun Belt.

Simington ranked second in the SBC in batting average (.386) and hits (81) at the end of the regular season, sixth in on-base percentage (.456) and RBIs (53), seventh in total bases (123), and ninth in OPS (1.042). He hit safely in 25 of 30 league games, and recorded 14 multi-hit and five multi-RBI games in league contests.

Simington's selection marks the 10th straight season in which a Jaguar outfielder has earned all-conference honors.

Boswell was one of three pitchers named second-team all-SBC, and his selection marks the third straight year a Jaguar hurler has been named all-conference. Boswell led the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts (89), and ranked tied for fourth in the league in wins (6), tied for seventh in walks allowed (19) and 10th in opponent batting average (.241).

Orbeta's selection as second-team all-SBC marks the first Jaguar to earn all-conference honors at second base since Robby Campbell was named first-team all-SBC in 2013. Orbeta batted a team-best .367 in 27 league games along with six doubles, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored, and drew 19 walks against 12 walks in conference contests. He posted a .984 fielding percentage in SBC games, and hit safely in 21 of 27 league contests. Orbeta recorded 14 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games against league opponents this season.

Texas State's Dalton Shuffield was named the SBC Player of the Year, Coastal Carolina's Reid VanScoter was the SBC Pitcher of the Year, Georgia State's Max Ryerson was voted the Newcomer of the Year, Appalachian State's Austin St. Laurent was the Freshman of the Year and Texas State's Steven Trout was voted the Ron Maestri Coach of the Year.
