NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama right-hander Miles Smith was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Smith (2-0) allowed just one hit and struck out seven batters without issuing a walk in seven scoreless innings to record his second win in as many starts in a 3-1 Jaguar win over Middle Tennessee last Friday at Stanky Field. He retired the final 10 batters he faced in the game, and did not allow a runner to reach second in his seven innings pitched.

Tuesday's announcement marked the first time in his career that Smith has been voted the league's pitcher of the week. Texas State's Dalton Shuffield was named the SBC Player of the Week.
