Greene and Angulo earn Sun Belt awards, multiple Jags earn All-Conference selections

NEW ORLEANS – The South Alabama soccer team had multiple student-athletes earn conference awards and all-conference team selections, the Sun Belt Conference announced Monday.
 
Senior forward Jasmine Greene was named Sun Belt Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Greene is joined by freshman defender Gabriela Angulo, who was named the league's Freshman of the Year.
 
It is the second year in a row a Jaguar has been named Player of the Year, Offensive of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
 
Three Jaguars – Greene, Nour Imane Addi and Abby Jacobs – were named first-team all-conference while Monique Gray, Danielle Fuentes and Jaidy Gutierrez Campos received a second-team selection.
 
Greene, a transfer from Furman University, led the Jaguars and the Sun Belt in goals (12) and points (26) in her first year at South. Greene finished the regular season ranked 10th in the nation for total goals.
 
The Jag offense finished the season ranked first in the Sun Belt in multiple categories: assists per game (2.00), points per game (6.56), scoring offense (2.28), total goals (41) and total points (118).
 
Angulo, a freshman from La Guaira, Vargas, Venezuela, made 13 appearances during her first year with the Jags, starting 11 matches. She totaled three assists as a defender.
 
The first-team selection was the first for Greene, Addi and Jacobs and the second-team selection was the first for Gray and Fuentes and the second for Gutierrez Campos.
 
Addi and Gray finished the season with eight goals each, while Jacobs netted one goal with three assists as a defender. Fuentes scored twice and recorded a team-high six assists.
 
Gutierrez Campos recorded 11 shutouts this season, which is a conference high. Her 11 clean sheets are also tied for first in the nation. Gutierrez Campos also tied a South Alabama program record of clean sheets recorded by a single goalkeeper in a season.
