MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama soccer team will begin preparations for the 2021 season with the start of the preseason camp on Tuesday.
The Jaguars' first workout on Wednesday will concentrate on building tactics during the later half of the day into the evening. Thursday's focus will be on the Man United test and more tactic building on the field. The team will start with workouts Friday before the third tactical session of the camp. Finally, on Saturday the team will spend most of the day on the field working on set pieces and the final tactics session of the camp before their exhibition match against Lipscomb on Monday.
After the team returns from the road trip, they will resume camp on Wednesday, Aug. 11 with another tactical session on the field. A team session will make up most of Thursday before the Jaguars' home opener against Mississippi State with Friday's schedule consisting of game day prep and feedback in preparation for the match. They will begin their home season with an exhibition match against the Bulldogs on Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) at The Cage.
The Jags welcome 14 newcomers to the squad this season and return nine starters and two letter-winners.
"We're excited for this time of year. We were in for a year long season it seemed like and now we've had a couple months off to get reenergized, refreshed and ready to go. We have a lot of new faces and returners back so we're excited to get going with the team again," head coach Richard Moodie said. "We have a lot of transfers this year, so we're hoping the maturity level of the group will pick up where it left off. When you bring in transfers you're looking to get the best out of them quickly. They're experienced not only in the classroom but on the field as well.
"It's a very diverse group and they're all very special individuals who we hope can mesh together quickly."
