POWERS NAMED TO BUSTER POSEY AWARD WATCH LIST

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List

WICHITA, Kan. – University of South Alabama baseball catcher Reid Powers was recently named to the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, as announced by The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Powers was one of 69 student-athletes named to the award watch list. The award is given annually to the nation's top Division I catcher. Powers is one of three Sun Belt Conference student-athletes on the list, which also includes Troy's Caleb Bartolero and Louisiana's Drake Osborn. 

Semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 20, finalists announced on June 7 with the winner to be named on a date that has not yet been determined.

In 12 games played this season, Powers is batting .209 with two doubles, one home run, seven RBIs and two runs scored, and has recorded two multiple-hit games and drove in multiple runs in one contest. He led the Jaguars in batting average (.339), and added one double, one triple, two home runs, 12 RBIs, 11 runs scored, one stolen base, a .500 slugging percentage and .439 on-base percentage in 17 games started and played in the shortened 2020 season.
