DURHAM, N.C. – University of South Alabama baseball outfielder Ethan Wilson was named to the 2021 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the organization Thursday.

Wilson, who was also named to the watch list in 2020, was one of 55 student-athletes named to the list and one of two Sun Belt Conference representatives. He is one of seven student-athletes who were named to the watch list last season, and one who three Jaguars since 2008 to be named to the list, along with Travis Swaggerty (2018) and Kevin Hill (2016).

The 43rd Golden Spikes Award will be presented in July. Fan voting will play a part in the Golden Spikes Award in 2021, with fans able to begin voting on June 8 with the naming of the semifinalists. The finalists will be announced on June 24.

Wilson was also named 2021 First-Team Preseason All-America by Baseball America, and Third-Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball earlier this year, in addition to being voted the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference.

He earned First-Team Freshman All-America accolades from Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2019. He was also named the Co-National Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball in '19, Third-Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball and Third-Team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings, as well as being a First-Team All-Central Region and First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection.

The Andalusia, Ala., native was voted the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year after finishing the season ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.686) and total bases (151), tied for second in home runs (17), tied for third in runs scored (59), sixth in batting average (.345) and on-base percentage (.453), tied for eighth in hits (76), ninth in RBIs (51) and tied for ninth in doubles (16). Wilson was the only NCAA Division I freshman in the nation to be named conference player of the year.

He broke the program's freshman home run record, and his 17 home runs in 2019 are the most by a Jaguar since Jeff Cunningham's single-season record of 22 in 2007.
