NEW ORLEANS – Following a record-setting performance that helped lead the University of South Alabama to its first-ever win over Georgia Southern, Jake Bentley was voted the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday.

That wasn't the only recognition the senior quarterback picked up over the weekend, as he was also named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness while receiving honorable mention National Performer-of-the-Week accolades from the College Football Performance Awards.  He was named one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week as well, and is eligible to be selected for the best performance by a quarterback in the country this week by visiting the following link: https://bit.ly/3aOgHcx.

Bentley connected on 24-of-31 passes for 389 yards, finishing with 397 yards of total offense — both the highest figures in school history — while becoming the first-ever Jaguar to account for five touchdowns in a game.  He opened the scoring against the Eagles with touchdown runs of 12 and six yards as South built a 17-0 lead in the opening 15-plus minutes, then broke open the contest when he hit Jalen Tolbert on a 40-yard scoring pass and Jalen Wayne from five yards out in a three-and-a-half minute span.  In all, Bentley would guide USA's offense to scores on five of its first six drives while going up 31-8 at the half.

He added a five-yard touchdown pass to Lincoln Sefcik late in the third quarter as South would end the 41-14 victory with 405 yards through the air and 545 in all, both totals that were not only the most of the season but rank second and fourth, respectively, on the school's game record lists.

Bentley and the Jags (4-2, 1-2 Sun Belt) will next be in action Saturday when they visit ULM for a 6 p.m. (CDT) match-up with the Warhawks.
