DALLAS – Not only have multiple individuals been recognized after the University of South Alabama football program opened the 2020 season with a victory, now the team has been honored as well.

One day after the Sun Belt Conference named Jalen Tolbert and Nick Mobley its Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the Jaguars have received the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Sept. 5 as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

South began the year with a 32-21 win at Southern Mississippi on Thursday, with the offense posting over 500 yards of total offense while the defense surrendered less than 100 yards on the ground.  Two Jag quarterbacks combined to finish with more than 300 yards passing and three scores, a pair of individuals recorded 100-plus receiving yards in the same contest for the first time in school history and the running game amassed better than 150 yards on the ground.  Three defenders totaled double digits in the tackle column as well, highlighting a unit that made five stops behind the line of scrimmage and also broke up two passes.

All participating Division I FBS and FCS schools are eligible to be selected for the award.  This is the 19th season for the FWAA to award a National Team of the Week, but the first occasion that South Alabama has been chosen for this honor.

The Jaguars will play the first-ever game at the new Hancock Whitney Stadium Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) when Tulane visits for a match-up that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.  It's the start of a five-game homestand that, as of Tuesday, will be the nation's longest stretch of consecutive home games.
