NASHVILLE – University of South Alabama football wide receiver Jalen Tolbert continued to rack up weekly awards as he was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week – his fourth honor of the week – on Thursday after his performance in the Jaguars' season-opening win at Southern Miss.

Tolbert recorded six receptions for 169 yards with two touchdowns, helping the Jag offense finish with 526 yards of total offense.  The Mobile, Ala., native gave South the lead for good when he took the third play of the game 73 yards for a touchdown, while also later scoring with a 31-yard reception to cap the Jags' opening possession of the second half. He also added another 31-yard catch on fourth down to keep a drive alive later in the quarter that resulted in a field goal and a 23-13 advantage.  

With the effort, Tolbert became the first individual in school history to post back-to-back games with multiple touchdown catches as well as the first Jag to record consecutive 100-yard receiving games since Jamarius Way accomplished the feat on Sept. 15 and 22, 2018.

Tolbert was voted the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after the Jaguars' 32-21 victory over the Golden Eagles. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-3 wide out was also named the Athlon Sports Offensive Player of the Week and chosen as an Honorable Mention College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Week.

South Alabama will welcome Tulane on Saturday evening for the program's first-ever game in Hancock Whitney Stadium. Kickoff versus the Green Wave is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN2.
