MOBILE, Ala. – A pair of talented players – Julien Evrard (Lillie, France) and Philip Bosman (Auburn, Ala.) – will join the University of South Alabama men's tennis program for the 2020-21 season as announced by head coach Nic Broshu Thursday afternoon.
Evrard, who will have one season of eligibility with the Jaguars, joins the program after spending the previous four seasons at the University of Nevada in Reno, Nev., Bosman will be an incoming freshman after closing out his prep career at Auburn High School in Auburn, Ala.
This past spring, Evrard led the Pack with 14 singles wins and reached the A bracket finals at the UC Davis Fall Invitational, where he finished second. Evrard earned all-Mountain West singles and doubles honors as a junior and sophomore.
"Julien will be a bid addition to our team," Brochu said. "He has been competing at the No.1 position at his previous school and has qualified for the National Championships. He will be able to come in and play among our top players right away. Julien has a big game and lots of weapons. He will also have a big impact on our doubles lineup. We are lucky to add a recruit of this caliber".
During his four seasons at Nevada, the Lillie, France, native complied 56 singles victories, while his 44 doubles victories with partner Kostya Nesterenko were the most in school history. Evrard also became the first player in program history to compete in the Oracle ITA Fall Nationals in single and doubles during his junior campaign, where the duo was ranked as high as No. 48 nationally. Over the course of his career, Evrard has also received player of the week honors from the MWC on three occasions.
Evrard's high school team won regional championship, while individually he was three-time regional finalist. Evrard was also ranked Top 10 in France as well as a semifinalist at the Team French Championship.
Bosman signs with South after a stellar prep career at Auburn High School in Auburn, Ala. During his time as a Tiger he became the first player in school history to capture a single state championship as he won the 7A title as a junior defeating Grissiom's Parrish Simmons in straight sets, the top seed in the bracket.
The incoming freshman was also a semifinalist at the Southern Closed tournament and recently named the Alabama Male Junior Player of the Year
"Philip comes to South with lots of talent," Brochu said. "He comes from a good tennis family. Watching him play shows how much heart he has on the court. He has a solid baseline game and will add depth to our lineup. I can see Philip developing into a great player for the Jags."
Bosman has been rated as a three-star recruit by Advantage Tennis Academy, while also being rated as the No. 1 player in Alabama by the USTA (United States Tennis Academy) and HEAD recruiting lists. He is also rated as the 48th best in the Southeast by HEAD.
Bosman has been a member of the Tiger varsity team since eighth grade playing at the No. 1 position every season compiling a 31-3 record in sectional play. As a junior, Bosman finished with an 18-3 record and led his team to a pair of first-place finishes where he was undefeated in singles and doubles play at both. Won all of his postseason matches in straight sets en route to capturing the state singles title.
