Date: 8/6
Time: 9:30-11:25 a.m. (CDT)
Place: James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility or Jaguar Training Center
Practice attire: Full Pads
Offensive Player of the Day: Devin Voisin, Fr., WR, Crestview, Fla.
-Offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield on Voisin: "You could tell that today was our first day in pads. We were a little sluggish early, but we did get going and even though our tempo at the end wasn't quite what I wanted it to be the execution was way better. I mentioned the other day that the 'H' wide receivers were starting to step up, we gave Devin a little extra work today and he responded in a real positive way. I was real proud of Devin today."
Defensive Player of the Day: Devin Rockette, Jr., CB, Oxford, Miss.
-Defensive coordinator Greg Stewart on Rockette: "We have been talking about specific situations during the middle eight minutes — the last four of the first half and first four of the second half — of games and making plays in that timeframe. Devin got tested twice today on deep balls and he made plays, I was proud of him. He is really coming on and being the player we expected him to be."
Play of the Day: On the third play of the first series of the run-pass-option (RPO) period, senior defensive lineman Tyree Turner made an excellent play on the interior of the line and plugged the hole, stopping running back Jared Wilson short of the line of scrimmage.
Team period highlights: South Alabama held two 10-minute team periods during the nearly two-hour practice. The first was a 16-play segment working on the RPO, while the final was a 24-play segment with the offense and defense going head-to-head to close out the day.

Head coach Steve Campbell
-On his thoughts of the first day in full pads: "It was a good first day in (full) pads. The heat was what we wanted it to be and I thought the guys fought through it well. We need to keep pushing ourselves to get into even better condition. I thought we were in as good of shape as we could be with not having put the pads on before. The only way to get into football shape is to put pads on and play football. I think we made it through (practice) without losing anyone to cramps. I saw some good stuff on both sides of the ball."
-On his expectations of what he wanted to see going into today: "I thought we did a good job of protecting the ball. We're still doing some installation stuff, so the execution wasn't quite what I wanted it to be on some things, but it's not going to be at this point. We're doing a three-day install. We made it through our first three-day install package and now we're in day two of our second go around, which we'll finish tomorrow. I'm pleased, but I'm not satisfied with where we are at. We need to be a little more physical. The defense really got after the offense during the inside run period. I also thought they were ahead of the offense during the team periods today."
-On tomorrow's final practice before the first scrimmage: "I'm just looking for improved execution. We have assignments and pad level we need to work on. We have to lock in and make sure we've got all of our assignments, adjustments and calls down."
Up next: South Alabama will be back on the practice field on Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Jaguar Training Center for its final practice before its first fall scrimmage.
