ELEVEN FORMER JAGS COMPETING IN MLB, MiLB

MOBILE, Ala. – Eleven former University of South Alabama baseball standouts are currently competing in Major League and Minor League Baseball. 

David Freese is batting .300 with 12 doubles, nine home runs, 27 RBIs, 32 runs scored and a .399 on-base percentage in 66 games played with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers lead the National League West Division by 16 games over the San Francisco Giants. 

Left-handed pitcher Locke St. John made his Major League Baseball debut on June 25 against the Detroit Tigers as a member of the Texas Rangers. He was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on July 31 by the Rangers, and struck out the only batter he faced in a 9-7 win over the Seattle Mariners. In six relief appearances with the Rangers this season, St. John has struck out five batters and issued four walks in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Texas kicks off a three-game weekend series with the Detroit Tigers, the organization which drafted St. John out of South Alabama, Friday at 7:05 p.m. in Arlington, Texas.

Cole Billingsley is batting .292 with 11 doubles, one home run, 10 RBIs, 27 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 53 games played with the Frederick Keys, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Billingsley hit .250 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs in 10 games with the Bowie Bay Sox, the Double-A affiliate of the Orioles, earlier this season.

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Carr was promoted to Advanced-A with the Clearwater Threshers of the Philadelphia Phillies organization earlier this season after opening the year with the Class-A Lakewood BlueClaws. Carr is 5-2 with a 1.15 ERA in 31 combined appearances, and has recorded 58 strikeouts against 19 walks in 55 innings pitched this season between Lakewood and Clearwater.

Brendan Donovan was named the Midwest League Player of the Week on July 24 after batting .560 (14-for-25) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, three RBIs and eight runs scored in six games for the Peoria Chiefs, the Class-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Donovan is batting .270 with 21 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 41 RBIs, 57 runs scored and four stolen bases in 86 games played with the Chiefs this season.

Right-handed pitcher Zach Greene is 1-1 with three saves in eight relief appearances with Yankees East, the Rookie-League affiliate of the New York Yankees in the Gulf Coast League. Greene has recorded a 2.70 ERA with 13 strikeouts and three walks in 10 innings pitched. 

Dylan Hardy has played in 60 games at five different levels this season. Hardy played in one game each at Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland in the Boston Red Sox organization. He played in 36 games with the Advanced-A Salem Red Sox, 19 games with the Class-A Greenville Drive and three contests with the Lowell Spinners. Hardy is batting .230 with six doubles, two triples, four home runs, 19 RBIs, 30 runs scored and six stolen bases in 60 games played this season.

Jordan Patterson is batting .243 with 18 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 41 RBIs, 55 runs scored and three stolen bases in 90 games played with the Buffalo Bisons, the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. 

Right-handed pitcher Matt Peacock is 7-3 with a 2.40 ERA in 15 appearances, 14 of which have been starts, with the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Peacock has struck out 54 batters and issued 27 walks in 82 1/3 innings pitched this season, and has also recorded two complete games and one shutout.

Travis Swaggerty is batting .245 with 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 30 RBIs, 54 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 94 games played with the Bradenton Marauders, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Swaggerty hit .319 six doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, 14 runs scored and four stolen bases in 25 games in July.

Right-handed pitcher Ben Taylor is 2-4 with a 5.70 ERA and one save in 34 relief appearances for the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Taylor has struck out 52 batters against 21 walks in 42 2/3 innings pitched.
