SATURDAY'S GAME
Saturday is the second of two exhibitions for South Alabama this week before the start of the regular season. On Sunday, the Jaguars fell 3-0 to Lipscomb in Foley.
Sunday marked just the second time USA lost an exhibition contest since 2013 (1-0 vs. Ole Miss in 2017).
The Jaguars had their streak of four consecutive Sun Belt titles and five straight NCAA Tournament appearances snapped last season. The program's five straight Sun Belt Tournament titles was the longest active run in Division I.
Justice Stanford ranked second in the league last season in goals against average (0.57) and save percentage (.860) in conference matches.
Stanford currently ranks first at USA in career shutouts (24), second in goals against average (0.93), third in save percentage (.796) and eighth in saves (214).
Brenna McPartlan, recently named to the Preseason all-Sun Belt team, returns as the Jaguars leader in goals (5), assists (4), points (14) and game-winning goals. She ranked in the top 10 in the conference in all four categories.
Four of McPartlan's five goals last season came on set pieces.
Briana Morris, who ranked second on the squad in points (9) and assists (3), and tied for third in goals (3), was named to the all-Sun Belt Tournament team after posting a goal and three assists in two games. She played a part in all three goals in the quarterfinals with a goal and two assists, and added another helper in the semifinals.
USA is 57-10-6 in all games against Sun Belt teams since the start of the 2013 season.
Lipscomb won the Atlantic Sun regular-season and tournament titles last season, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Mississippi State.

MOODIE'S QUOTES ON SATURDAY'S GAME
On his biggest takeaway from the Lipscomb game: "The middle 30 minutes were brilliant. For both teams, it was an exciting 30 minutes of football, but we just moved the ball so well and found ways to break them down. The biggest thing is, we have to create more. We want to create more chances, and I thought we were comfortable in possession and the game was even until the last eight minutes — it could've gone either way at that point. So we have to create more chances or take the chances that we create. We were still without a lot of bodies in that game so hopefully on Saturday we'll see us at full strength. "

On what he wants to work on for Saturday: "We have to look at how we build through the thirds and how we want to play. With Alabama being an SEC team, they're going to be pressing and have a high intensity. Are we able to play the way we want to play out of that? Also, defensive shape is so important. It's not a brand new back four but we have two new center backs. We have to get them jelled together and playing every minute."

On if last year's game vs. Alabama helps: "It helps us because it's a benchmark. If last year's game was a 5-1 game, now we have the ability to see if we've improved in any area. They're a fantastic team and really well coached – I have a lot of respect with what they're doing up there. They're high energy, high intensity and they're off the back of smashing Central Florida 3-0 in what seemed to be a comfortable win for them. It helps us to see where we genuinely are. We have to figure out if it's the result we're playing for or the process. Last year they beat us 5-1, and LSU barely got out of here with a 1-0 win, and LSU were the better team in the SEC. There's also an element of consistency – can build off of where we left off and make it better."
