SECAUCUS, N.J. – University of South Alabama baseball signee Trevor McDonald was selected in the 11th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
McDonald, who just completed his senior year at George County High School in Lucedale, Miss., was taken by the Giants with the 326th overall pick in the draft. He was a 2019 Class 6A Mississippi High School Activities Association First-Team All-State selection as a utility player, and also earned First-Team All-State honors from the Clarion Ledger.
McDonald finished with an 8-2 record in 11 starts as a senior, and recorded 105 strikeouts against 15 walks while posting a 1.78 ERA. Offensively, he hit .311 with four home runs and 33 RBIs in 31 games played.Â
McDonald earned 2018 6A all-region honors after posting a 1.49 ERA with 88 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .191 batting average, and helped lead the Rebels to a state runner-up finish. He recorded a 3.58 ERA as a sophomore while striking out 29 batters, and posted a 2.62 ERA with 38 strikeouts as a freshman while helping CGHS to a state runner-up finish. McDonald was named 2016 6A all-region, and was also an All-South selection by the Sun Herald.
