TEN FORMER JAGS COMPETING IN MLB, MiLB



MOBILE, Ala. – Ten former University of South Alabama baseball standouts are currently competing in Major League and Minor League Baseball. 

David Freese is batting .308 with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 22 RBIs, 27 runs scored and a .419 on-base percentage in 50 games played with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his last 15 games played, Freese is hitting .459 with five home runs, 12 RBIs, 14 runs scored and a 1.500 OPS, including a .500 OBP. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored in Thursday's win over the Chicago Cubs.

Cole Billingsley started the 2019 season with the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the Eastern League. Billingsley was sent to the Advanced-A Frederick Keys on April 20. In 38 games played with the Keys, Billingsley is batting .336 with 10 doubles, eight RBIs, 23 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a .411 on-base percentage. 

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Carr started 2019 with the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, where he went 1-0 with one save in seven relief appearances, and posted a 2.70 ERA with 10 strikeouts and five walks in 13 1/3 innings pitched. Carr was promoted to the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers on May 20, and is 2-1 with one save in 11 relief appearances, and has recorded a 0.51 ERA with 20 strikeouts against nine walks in 17 2/3 innings.

Brendan Donovan is batting .226 with 10 doubles, four home runs, 22 RBIs, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases in 56 games played with the Peoria Chiefs, the Single-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Midwest League.

Dylan Hardy began the 2019 season with the Salem Red Sox, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox before being sent to the Single-A Greenville Drive on May 26. Hardy was promoted to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs on June 6, and was then promoted to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on June 7. In 33 games played this season with four different clubs in the Red Sox organization, Hardy is batting .210 with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 16 runs scored and one stolen base.

Jordan Patterson is batting .220 with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs, 17 RBIs, 27 runs scored and one stolen base in 52 games played with the Buffalo Bisons, the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Patterson spent the 2016-18 seasons with the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Right-handed pitcher Matt Peacock is 2-2 with a 2.09 ERA in eight appearances, seven of which have been starts, with the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Peacock has recorded 22 strikeouts and issued 12 walks in 38 2/3 innings pitched this season for the Generals.

Left-handed pitcher Locke St. John went 3-2 with a 1.52 ERA in 22 relief appearances for the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. St. John struck out 42 batters against 13 walks in 29 2/3 innings pitched before being promoted to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds last week. In two relief appearances with Nashville, St. John has struck out four batters without issuing a walk in three innings pitched.

Travis Swaggerty is hitting .221 with five doubles, two triples, five home runs, 19 RBIs, 36 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 58 games played with the Bradenton Marauders, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Right-handed pitcher Ben Taylor is 0-1 in 17 relief appearances with the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Taylor was signed by Arizona after being released by the Cleveland Indians earlier this season, where he appeared in six games as a reliever in 2018.
