FUJIOKA PLAYER OF THE YEAR, TWO EARN ALL-SUN BELT WOMEN’S TENNIS HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama sophomore Yu Fujioka was voted Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, and Fujioka and senior Alexandria Stiteler earned first-team all-conference honors in the league's postseason awards released Wednesday.

Fujioka is the third Jaguar in the last four seasons to receive player-of-the-year honors, and Stiteler joins Estelle Gevers as the only four-time all-Sun Belt recipients in school history.

A native of Funabashi, Japan, Fujioka currently holds a 20-4 overall record and a 14-2 mark – all at the top three flights – in the spring. She is a perfect 7-0 in league play and has won 13 of her last 14 outings.

Fujioka is third in the Sun Belt in overall win percentage (.875) and second in win percentage at the No. 2 flight (.857). Five of her seven league victories have been in straight sets.

In her career, Fujioka is 35-2 in dual matches, including a 21-0 ledger as a freshman, which is the best in school history.

Stiteler, a native of Bradenton, Fla., is 13-6 in singles this season, all at the top flight. She has the league's top win percentage at No. 1 among qualifiers with at least 10 decisions at .684, and her last six wins have come in straight sets.

The league's player of the year in 2016 and 2017, Stiteler is South Alabama's all-time leader in career No. 1 wins and No. 1 win percentage at 62 and .775, respectively. She has been named the player of the week in the Sun Belt a school-record 11 times, including twice in 2019.
