JAG BASEBALL CAPS THIRD WEEK OF FALL DRILLS



MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team capped its third week of fall drills this week at Stanky Field.

South Alabama has held eight intrasquad games through three weeks, in addition to 14 innings against Northwest Florida State College on Nov. 2 at Stanky Field.

Andrew Bates leads the team leads the Jags in batting average (.526) and on-base percentage (.565), and is tied for the team lead in runs scored (5), hits (10), home runs (1) and slugging percentage (.789). Hunter Stokes leads the team in RBIs (6), while Kaleb DeLaTorre leads in stolen bases (3).

Bates, Stokes, DJ Law and Noah Fitzgerald share the team lead with three multiple-hit games apiece, while Bates, Law, Richard Sorrenti, Stokes, DeLaTorre and Michael Sandle lead with one multi-RBI game each.

Fitzgerald has hit safely in six straight intrasquad games, while Stokes has hit safely in four straight. Fitzgerald and Cullen O'Shea share the longest on-base streak at six games apiece.

Six Jaguar hurlers have yet to allow an earned run in intrasquad appearances:  Tyler Trussell, Noah Michael, Drake Nightengale, Peyton Millirons, Steven Lacey and Collier Baggett. Left-hander Caleb Yarborough leads the staff in innings pitched (11.0) and strikeouts (14). Nightengale leads the staff in strikeouts (11), while Millirons, Tyler Lehrmann and Trace Holder rank second with 10 each. 

As a pitching staff, the Jaguars have recorded a 3.35 team ERA with 111 strikeouts against 45 walks in 115 2/3 innings pitched this fall. USA hitters have combined to bat .260 with 27 doubles, six home runs, 47 RBIs, 49 runs scored and 15 stolen bases in eight intrasquad games.

South Alabama will travel to New Orleans on Saturday to play 18 innings at Tulane, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. 

Following Saturday's 18 innings at Tulane, the Jags will have eight scheduled intrasquad games remaining, beginning Tue., Nov. 12, at 3:30 p.m. at Stanky Field. USA will close fall workouts with an intrasquad game on Sun., Nov. 24, at noon at Stanky Field.
