DONOVAN SELECTED BY CARDINALS IN MLB DRAFT

NEW YORK – University of South Alabama junior third baseman Brendan Donovan was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday by the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals selected the Enterprise, Ala., native with the 213th overall pick in the draft.

Donovan earned second-team all-Sun Belt Conference honors this season after finishing third in the league in sacrifice flies (6), fourth in on-base percentage (.456), fifth in walks (50), sixth in RBIs (55), tied for eighth in doubles (17) and 10th in runs scored (51). He batted .302 with 17 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 55 RBIs, 51 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .437 OBP in 57 games played this season. He was named to the 2018 SBC All-Tournament Team, and was voted the 2017 SBC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

In 173 career games played, Donovan batted .311 with 41 doubles, seven triples, 15 home runs, 128 RBIs, 137 runs scored, 19 stolen bases and a .437 career OBP. He ranks seventh in career walks (120) at South Alabama, and 13th in career RBIs (128). He is the first Jaguar infielder to be selected in the MLB Draft since Brandon Brown in 2010, who went in the 22nd round to the New York Mets.
