TULSA, Okla. – On a rainy day in Tulsa, the South Alabama men's tennis team closed out the ITA Men's All-American as sophomores
Loic Cloes and
Clement Marzol fell in doubles and Marzol fell in singles action on Tuesday.
"Overall, it was a great learning experience for our two young players," USA head coach
Nick Brochu said. "We got a couple of big doubles wins and Clement comes back with a singles win that could help him with his national ranking down the road."
Marzol fell to No. 93-ranked Valentin Vacherot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
"Clement had a slow start in the first set finding himself down 0-3 quickly, but he came back by making the points longer to get back in the match," Brochu said. "The second was better, but his opponent came up with big shots to break Clement."
In doubles play, Clement and Cloes fell in a close match to Texas A&M's Juan Carlos Aguilar and Jordi Arconada 6-2, 2-6, 10-5, as doubles matches were moved indoors due to rain throughout the day.
"It was a great doubles match. We had a slow start and it took us longer to adapt to the indoor speed, but we made some adjustments in the second set that worked," Brochu commented. "In the super tiebreaker, both teams played solid up to 4-5. We got nervous and made four unforced errors that cost us the match. We need to learn to relax and have confidence in our aggressive game when it matters most."
Cloes was scheduled to play in the singles consolation round, but consolation matches were canceled due to rain.
The Jaguars will be back in action at the Samford Invitational Oct. 13-15.
