2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of South Alabama baseball outfielder Travis Swaggerty was named a 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.

Swaggerty led South Alabama in batting average (.303), and was named to the NCAA Tallahassee All-Regional Team after hitting .412 with one double, one triple, one home run, two RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base in four games.

The Mandeville, La., native is the 11th Jaguar to earn Freshman All-America honors in the program's 50-plus year history, and is the first since Logan Kirkland earned second-team Freshman All-America accolades from Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2011. Swaggerty is the first Jag outfielder to earn first-team Freshman All-America honors, and the first outfielder to earn the distinction since Adam Lind received second-team Freshman All-America accolades in 2003. Swaggerty joins Lind and Tim Merritt (1999) as the only Jaguar outfielders in program history to be named Freshman All-America.

Swaggerty ranked second in the SBC in stolen bases (20) and walks (42) this season, third in on-base percentage (.431) and tied for seventh in runs scored (47). He also recorded four assists from right field this season, which ranked second among Jaguar outfielders. Swaggerty hit safely in 45 of 59 games this year, and tied a career high with three in the NCAA Tallahassee Region championship game against 12th-ranked Florida State. He ranked second on the team with 17 multiple-hit games, and posted five multi-RBI contests. Swaggerty also recorded a team-best 35-game on-base streak this season, and a 14-game hit streak which stood as the second-longest of any Jaguar this year.
