MEN’S TENNIS CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON ON SUNDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team will finish regular season play Sunday at 10 a.m. as they face off against Troy at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Junior Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) has won his last four singles sets - three in straight sets - but USA is coming off a four-match losing streak, three of which were ranked opponents. The Jaguars currently have a record of 12-11.

"Every team has ups and downs," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "We're trying to prepare for conference, and that's where it all matters. You want to finish the season on the right note, especially if it's against a conference opponent."

Led by sophomore Mustapha Belcora and junior Pablo Moreno, the Trojans have a record of 14-11 record, winning 10 of their last 11 matches. Belcora has posted a singles record of 11-4, winning six of his last seven outings, and Moreno has a 13-5 singles mark, taking 11 of his last 13.

"Troy has had a good second half of the season probably because they had some players injured at the beginning of the season," Brochu said. "It's going to be a good test this weekend in preparation for conference."

Last season, Troy took both meetings between the two teams on their way to winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

"It's a big conference match, and the rivalry has always been there," said Brochu. "We've got to go in there and, just like in previous seasons, doubles is going to be very important. If we can win the doubles point, especially on the road, that's going to calm the players down. If we beat Troy this weekend and we see them again in conference, which gives us a bit of an edge to begin the match."
