JAG BASEBALL TO HOST UT-ARLINGTON IN SBC SERIES


MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will host Texas-Arlington in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Stanky Field.

The series will kick off with game one Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by game two Satuday at 6:30 p.m. Sunday's series finale is set for a noon first pitch. 

USA right-hander Kevin Hill (3-1) will make his fourth start of the season in the series opener. Hill leads the SBC and ranks tied for fifth in the nation in strikeouts (38) entering the weekend, and ranks sixth in the league in opposing batting average (.184). UTA will send right-hander Joel Kuhnel (3-1) to the mound in the series opener. Kuhnel carries a 1.48 ERA into his fifth start of the sesaon, and has recorded 20 strikeouts against six walks in 24 1/3 innings this year.

Jaguar right-hander Hunter Soleymani (1-1) will make his fourth start of the season in game two of the series. Soleymani has recorded 13 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings this season. He will square off with Maverick right-hander Kadon Simmons (4-1), who has 19 strikeouts and two walks issued in 25 1/3 innings pitched.

USA right-hander Austin Bembnowski (1-0) will get his fifth start of the year in the series finale, while UTA has not announced a starter for game three.

South Alabama (12-5, 3-0 SBC) leads the SBC with a .983 fielding percentage, which ranks tied for 10th nationally, and has also committed the fewest errors in the league with 11. The Jaguars also lead the league in walks (980), which ranks tied for 11th nationally, and stolen bases (23). USA is second in the conference in home runs (13), and third in on-base percentage (.385), RBI (103) and runs scored (113).

UT-Arlington (10-8, 2-1 SBC) dropped a midweek contest to Texas Tech on Tuesday after taking two of three games from Arkansas State last weekend in Arlington, Texas, to open conference play. The Mavericks lead the SBC in hits (191), and rank third in batting average (.300).
