MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will travel to Hammond, La., Tuesday for a midweek matchup with Southeastern Louisiana.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The game will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile, and can be accessed via the iHeartRadio app. Live stats will be available through USAJaguars.com, and in-game updates will be provided at the official South Alabama Baseball Twitter account (@SouthALBaseball).Â
USA (12-4) will send right-hander Randy Bell (0-0) to the mound for his first career start. Bell has made three relief appearances this season. He will square off with SLU right-hander Pat Cashman (2-0).
South Alabama leads the Sun Belt Conference with a .984 fielding percentage, which ranks 11th nationally, and are tied with Little Rock for the fewest errors committed (10). The Jaguar pitching staff ranks second in the Sun Belt in fewest walks allowed (48).
Offensively, South Alabama leads the SBC in walks (95), which ranks fourth nationally. The Jags also lead the league in on-base percentage (.392) and home runs (13). USA is tied for the league lead in sacrifiice flies (10) with Georgia State, which is tied for 21st nationally. South Alabama ranks fourth in the SBC in sacrifice bunts (16) and is 19th nationally.
Drew LaBounty ranks second in the league in on-base percentage (.522), tied for second in walks (14) and sacrifice flies (3), third in batting average (.423), tied for third in RBI (16), seventh in slugging percentage (.558) and tied for ninth in hits (22). Danny Martinez leads the Sun Belt Conference with 19 RBI, and is tied for fifth in walks (12). Center fielder Cole Billingsley enters the week as the SBC leader in sacrifice flies (4), which ranks third nationally, and is tied for the league lead in stolen bases (5).Â
South Alabama holds a 40-17 all-time lead over Southeastern Louisiana in a series that dates back to 1984. The Lions have won four straight games over the Jaguars. The last USA win in the series came in 2013 with a 9-0 shutout of SLU at Stanky Field.Â
The Jags swept a three-game series from Little Rock last weekend at Stanky Field to open SBC play. SLU (10-6) swept a three-game series with Incarnate Word over the weekend after splitting a pair of midweek games with Southern Mississippi.
