JAG BASEBALL TO OPEN SBC PLAY WITH LITTLE ROCK AT STANKY FIELD

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will face Little Rock to open Sun Belt Conference play in a three-game series at Stanky Field this weekend.

The series was originally scheduled to be played in Little Rock, Ark., but officials moved it to Mobile with the forecast in Little Rock calling for heavy rains and thunderstorms for the remainder of the week. Little Rock will play as the home team in each game of this weekend's series at Stanky Field.

The series will open with game one at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Game two on Saturday and the Sunday series finale are each set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Jaguar right-hander Kevin Hill (2-0) will get the start for the Jaguars in the series opener. Hill is coming off his first loss since 2014 after coming up on the wrong end in the decision to Middle Tennessee last Friday at Stanky Field. The right-hander leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks second nationally in strikeouts (31).  He will square off with Little Rock right-hander Cory Malcom (0-2).

USA right-hander Austin Bembnowski (1-0) will make his fourth start of the season in game two on Saturday. Bembnowski has not allowed more than two runs in each of his last two starts. He will face Trojan left-hander Will Hazen (1-1).

Jaguar right-hander Harrison Spruiell (1-0) will start the series finale on Sunday. Spruiell struck out five and issued one walk while allowing one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings last week in his first career start against Southern Mississippi. Little Rock has not announced its starter for the final game of the series.

South Alabama holds a 64-13 all-time lead over Little Rock in a series that dates back to 1992. The Jaguars have won three straight series over the Trojans dating back to 2013. USA clinched last year's series in a 3-2 win in 11 innings in a series-finale rubber match at Stanky Field.

South Alabama leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks tied for ninth nationally in walks (75). The Jags are tied for third in the league in home runs (9), and rank fourth in on-base percentage (.380), runs scored (81) and RBI (75). USA is seventh in batting average (.256), hits (109) and slugging percentage (.366).

The Jaguar pitching staff ranks second in the conference in fewest walks allowed (36), tied for third in saves (3), fourth in opposing batting average (.247), fifth in ERA (3.53), sixth in hits allowed (108) and tied for eighth in strikeouts (92).

Defensively, USA ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference with a .986 fielding percentage - which also ranks tied for seventh nationally - and has committed the second-fewest errors (7) in the league. Little Rock leads the league in fielding percentage (.989), which is tied for second nationally.

All three games of the series will be streamed live and available for purchase through JagNationTV.com. Each game will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile, and can also be accessed through the iHeartRadio app. Live stats for each game will be available through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com, and in-game updates will be provided through the official South Alabama Baseball Twitter account (@SouthALBaseball).

Tickets can be purchased for each game for $5, and seating throughout the stadium will be general admission. All 2016 baseball season ticket holders will be allowed complimentary admission through the main gate, via a season-ticket holder list, to all three games.
