TRHAE MITCHELL SIGNS WITH USA MEN’S BASKETBALL

MOBILE, Ala.Trhae Mitchell will join the University of South Alabama men's basketball program for the 2015-16 season, head coach Matthew Graves announced Monday.

Mitchell, a 6-5 small forward from Mableton, Ga., is a graduate of Pebblebrook High School.

"We're very excited to have Trhae Mitchell join our Jaguar Family," Graves said. "He's a young man with tremendous potential and upside, as he's only 17 years old. I really like his versatility, especially on the defensive end of the floor—I think he'll be a guy who's capable of guarding as many as four positions. Offensively, as he continues to get stronger and develop his jump shot, he'll be a great asset for us."

A 1,000-point scorer in his career, Mitchell was a three-time all-region performer—second team as a sophomore and senior, and first team as a junior—and twice received all-county recognition, collecting second-team plaudits in his final two years.

Mitchell's play earned him a spot on all-state teams after his junior (honorable mention) and senior (third team) seasons. The latter honor came after averaging 15 points and seven rebounds per game.

"Right now, he is a big wing; we don't have a lot of those on the roster," Graves said. "With his size, he's going to be able to play some on the wing and play some at the '4' and cause some mismatch problems, especially on the offensive end of the floor because he's able to face the basket and handle the ball."

Playing alongside three ACC and SEC commitments, Mitchell led the Falcons to a state semifinal appearance as a junior and a state runner-up finish last season.
