MOBILE, Ala
. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team won four singles matches in straight sets to defeat Jackson State 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Jaguars improved to 13-8 in their spring campaign and 5-2 in home matches.

"The atmosphere was great today," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "We had a great crowd on Senior Day, and they guys had fun. We didn't want to take Jackson State lightly though, so we knew we had to take care of business."

With the match 1-0 after USA earned the doubles point, senior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany), ranked No. 81 in the nation, gave the Jags a 2-0 lead with a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory over Federico Buscarino at the No. 1 spot. Junior Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina) followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Miguel Gomez Martin at No. 3.

"It always nice to have a guy, like Daniel, playing his last match at home and playing a perfect 6-0, 6-0 match," said Brochu.

Freshman Olivier Gingras (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) secured the match for South Alabama when he downed Camilo Patino 6-2, 6-2 on the No. 4 court.

Junior Tim Srkala (Brno, Czech Republic) extended his win streak to five when he outlasted Carlos Martinez 6-3, 3-6, 4-1 (ret.) in the No. 2 flight. Frederico Mendietta claimed the Tigers lone point when he edged senior Manuel Belda (Posadas, Misiones, Argentina) 2-6, 6-4, (11-9). Junior Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) picked up the final point for USA when he topped Hernan Gerla 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

South Alabama clinched the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots.  Leitner and Gruindelingh defeated Martinez and Buscarino at No.1, while Belda and Srkala dropped Gerla and Martin on court No. 2.

The Jaguars are back in action Thursday at Southern Miss at 3 p.m. for their final match of the regular season.

"Tomorrow we go back to work and get ready for a big match on Thursday," said Brochu. "Even though we have been talking about the Sun Belt Conference Tournament a lot lately, the guys know that we still have to finish the season strong."
