JAG BASEBALL TRAVELS TO SOUTHERN MISS WEDNESDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will face Southern Mississippi at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss.

USA (29-16) will be in search of its 30th win of the season in Wednesday's contest, which will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile and also accessible via the iHeartRadio app. Live stats will be available at USAJaguars.com, and in-game updates will be provided at Twitter.com/SouthALBaseball. Live streaming for the game will be available for purchase at SouthernMiss.com.

Southern Mississippi faces Alabama Tuesday evening in Birmingham, Ala., before taking on USA Wednesday. South Alabama will send right-hander Hunter Soleymani (1-0) to the mound for his second start of the season. In eight appearances this season, including one start, Soleymani has struck out 14 batters and issued just four walks and posted a 0.59 ERA in 15 1/3 innings pitched while also helping combine for two shutouts. USM has not announced its starter for Wednesday's contest.

The Jaguars enter the week as the Sun Belt Conference leader in batting average (.283), on-base percentage (.380), hits (437), walks (203) and tied for the league lead in sacrifice flies (23). The USA pitching staff leads the SBC in ERA (3.27), strikeouts (358), and ranks second in runs allowed (180). USA ranks second in the conference in fielding percentage (.974), and is tied with Arkansas State with the fewest errors (45) in the SBC.

Cole Billingsley ranks second in the Sun Belt in stolen bases (20), while Adam Ballew is second in the league with five sacrifice flies.

USA enters the game with a four-game winning streak after sweeping Georgia State in a three-game SBC series last weekend at Stanky Field. South Alabama holds a 58-31 all-time lead over USM in a series that dates back to 1967. Four Golden Eagle pitchers combined to shut out the Jaguars earlier this season at Stanky Field. USA has won the last three meetings between the schools in Hattiesburg, and last fell at USM in 2011.
