MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will host Georgia State in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Stanky Field.
The series will open with game one at 6:30 p.m. Friday night, followed by game two Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
All three games of the series will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile, and also available on the iHeartRadio app. Each game will also be streamed live and available for purchase through JagNationTV.com. South Alabama (26-16, 11-7 SBC) enters the weekend in third place in the Sun Belt Conference standings, while Georgia State (26-15, 13-3 SBC) comes in as the league leader with the best winning percentage in the conference.
USA will send right-hander Kevin Hill (6-0) to the mound in the series opener, while GSU will counter with right-hander Nathan Bates (4-0). Hill ranks second in the Sun Belt with six wins, fifth in ERA (2.45), and seventh in strikeouts (51) and opposing batting average (.231).
Austin Bembnowski (2-3) will start Saturday's contest for USA, while GSU will send left-hander Kenny Anderson (4-2) the mound. Jaguar southpaw Jared Gates (3-2) and Panther right-hander Cole Uvila are scheduled to start the series finale.
South Alabama leads the Sun Belt with a 3.45 team ERA, and ranks second in fielding percentage (.972). The Jags lead the league in on-base percentage (.378), stolen bases (62) and walks (187), tied for first in sacrifice flies (23), and rank second in batting average (.287), hits (408) and hit by pitch (48).
Cole Billingsley is tied for the league lead in stolen bases (20), tied for third in triples (3), tied for fourth in hits (53), tied for fifth in walks (26) and ranks ninth in on-base percentage (.429). Adam Ballew ranks second in the SBC in sacrifice flies (5).
Georgia State is led by Matt Rose, who is tied for the national lead and leads the conference in home runs (14), RBI (40) and slugging percentage (.738). Rose is second in the league in total bases (104), while Joey Roach is second in the SBC in RBI (36).
The Panthers have won five consecutive Sun Belt games after winning two contests at Appalachian State last weekend, and sweeping a three-game set against Louisiana-Monroe April 11-12. South Alabama holds a 12-3 all-time lead over Georgia State in a series that dates back to 1979. The Panthers took two of three games from the Jaguars last season.
