JAG BASEBALL FALLS AT JACKSONVILLE STATE

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Five Jacksonville State pitchers combined to shut out the University of South Alabama baseball team 3-0 Tuesday at Rudy Abbott Field.

Gamecock right-hander Graham Officer (3-1) allowed just one hit and struck out two in three innings to earn his third win of the season. Four JSU relievers then followed with six scoreless innings, combining to allow only one hit while striking out three with two walks, including Travis Stout who tossed a perfect ninth inning to record his ninth save of the season. Austin Stephens (1-2) allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in the loss.

JSU (20-19) took the game's first lead in the bottom of the third on a two-out RBI single to right field by Paschal Petrongolo.

The Gamecocks added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Gamble led off the inning with a double to right-center field, and scored on a one-out double to left field by Elliot McCummings for a 2-0 JSU lead. Josh Bobo followed with an RBI double inside the left-field line to plate McCummings with the final run of the game.

Ben Gann and Jared Barnes had one double apiece to lead South Alabama (25-16) at the plate. Petrongolo 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead JSU offensively.

The series will conclude at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rudy Abbott Field.
