JAG BASEBALL TO HOST SLU TUESDAY


MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will host Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Stanky Field.

Jaguar left-hander Zach McMullen (0-1) will make his third start of the season, while Lion right-hander Pat Cashman (1-2) will make his second start of the year.

The game will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile, and can also be accessed via the iHeartRadio app. It will also be streamed live and available for purchase at JagNationTV.com. USA (11-5) went 2-2 last week after taking its first SBC series of the season over the weekend at Stanky Field. The Jags took two of three games from Arkansas-Little Rock to open conference play. The Jags shut out the Trojans 1-0 Saturday to even the series, and clinched it with an 11th-inning win in Sunday's finale.

South Alabama leads the SBC in batting average (.296), on-base percentage (.413), runs scored (98), hits (159), walks (83), hit by pitch (32) and sacrifice flies (11). The Jags rank second in the league with 23 stolen bases, and are tied for second in RBI (81).

The USA pitching staff ranks third in strikeouts (119), while the Jaguar defense ranks third in the league with a .969 fielding percentage.

Drew LaBounty leads the Sun Belt in on-base percentage (.551), while Adam Ballew ranks second in RBI (16). Bud Collura ranks second in hits (23), and is tied for second in runs scored (14). Davis Knapp leads the conference in hit by pitch (6).

Right-hander Cody Van Aken leads the league in ERA (0.56) and earned runs allowed (1), and is tied for first in runs allowed (2). Van Aken is tied for third in the SBC in fewest walks allowed with two.

SLU (12-5) saw a seven-game win streak come to an end in Sunday's series finale at Incarnate Word. The Lions enter the game batting .303 as a team with 24 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 108 RBI, 124 runs scored and 27 stolen bases in 17 games.

Daniel Midyett leads SLU in home runs (3), while Kevin Carr leads the team in batting average (.389), doubles (5) and on-base percentage (.507).

The Lion pitching staff carries a 3.98 ERA into the contest, and has 128 strikeouts against 60 walks in 149 1/3 innings this season. Opponents are hitting .234 against them.

USA holds a 40-15 all-time lead over SLU in a series that dates back to 1984. The Jags are 23-6 all-time against the Lions at Stanky Field after SLU shut out USA 5-0 last year in Mobile.
