JAG BASEBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR FIRST TIME THIS SEASON

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face Alabama State at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

USA (4-3) enters the game on a three-game losing skid after dropping three straight games last weekend at Stanky Field to No. 13 Maryland, No. 15 Arkansas and No. 22 Central Florida. Alabama State (3-3) carries a two-game winning streak into the contest after taking a pair of games from Florida A&M over the weekend.

South Alabama holds an 11-1 all-time lead over Alabama State in a series that dates back to 1987. USA and ASU split a pair of games last season, with the Jags defeating the Hornets 12-11 in Montgomery, Ala., after ASU shut out USA 5-0 at Stanky Field on the second week of the season.

The USA bullpen carries a 1.98 ERA into Tuesday's contest. Jaguar relievers have recorded four wins and one save in 41 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts against eight walks while limiting the opposition to a .228 batting average.

Alabama State is hitting .322 as a team through six games, led by P.J. Harris who leads the team in batting average (.571), total bases (17), slugging percentage (1.214) and on-base percentage (.600). The Hornet pitching staff carries a 4.50 team ERA into the game, with 53 strikeouts against 21 walks in 52 innings pitched.

South Alabama is hitting .288 through seven games, led by Garrett DeGallier who leads the team in batting average (.385), runs scored (7), hits (10), triples (1), home runs (1), total bases (15) and slugging percentage (.577), and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases (2).

USA will send right-hander Austin Bembnowski to the mound in his first career start. Bembnowski tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while striking out six last Tuesday in a 7-4 win over Auburn. Alabama State right-hander Hunter McIntosh (0-0) will make his first start of the season.

The game will be broadcast live on WNTM 710 AM in Mobile, and can also be accessed on the iHeartRadio app. Live stats for every Jaguar baseball game are available through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com, and in-game updates are provided at Twitter.com/SouthALBaseball.
