BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of South Alabama track and field team had three individuals compete at the Samford Stand Alone Multi, held at the Crossplex on Wednesday and Thursday.Â
Cameron Stokes — the lone male to make the trip — finished in sixth place in the heptathlon with a total of 4,294 points. During day one, Stokes accumulated 2,358 points after posting a time of 9.19 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, a 3.84m height in the pole vault and finishing the 1000-meter run in 3:00.52. On day two he competed in four events including the 60-meter dash (7.71), long jump (5.94m), shot put (9.96m), and high jump (1.84m), scoring a high of 661 points in the latter discipline.Â
Erin Autio earned eighth place in the women's pentathlon, scoring 3,089 points. She collected her highest total — 733 points — in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.89, also recording a height of 1.53m in the high jump, a distance of 9.29m in the shot put and 4.94m in the long jump, and concluding the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.43.Â
Jasmine Ferguson also competed in the pentathlon and earned 11th place with a final score of 2,890. The senior's marks included a 9.60 time in the 60-meter hurdles, 1.53m in the high jump, 11.99m in the shot put, 4.78m in the long jump, and a 3:09.03 time in the 800-meter run. Like Autio, Ferguson's best score came in the hurdles.
"It was a decent start for two freshmen in their very first combined events competition, they faired well," commented Jaguar head track and field coach Paul Brueske. Â "Jasmine didn't have her best meet, but I saw some good things out of the two freshman that went."Â
The winner of the men's heptathlon was JaQuarius Wilson from Mississippi State with a final score of 5,068, while the Bulldogs' Erica Bougard claimed the pentathlon after posting 4,419 points.
The Jaguars will be back in action at the Crossplex on Friday at UAB's Vulcan Invite.
